Zach Woodward // Interim Head Coach // Defensive CoordinatorCoach Woodward enters his 18th year of coaching and his 10th season at Byron Nelson High School, where he has served as Defensive Coordinator and now begins his first year as Interim Head Coach. Prior to joining the Bobcat staff with Coach Travis Pride, the two spent eight years together at Mansfield Summit—Coach Woodward serving four years as the outside linebackers coach and four as the freshmen head coach. It was during this time that Coach Pride began mentoring Zach into the coach he is today, a leadership style and vision Coach Woodward now continues at Byron Nelson.
Coach Woodward holds a master’s degree in education from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Math from Midwestern State University. A native of Wichita Falls, he graduated from Rider High School in 2003 and began his professional journey as a youth minister before finding his true calling in coaching. Coach Woodward met his wife, Melissa, during their time at Mansfield Summit, where she served as the drill team director. Now a dedicated school counselor at Timber Creek High School, Melissa shifted her focus to student support as their family grew. The Woodwards have three energetic sons—Luke (11), Jake (9), and Beck (7)—who keep them busy with their shared love for sports, especially football and baseball. Whether they're on the sideline or drawing up plays at home, the entire family embraces this team and community. For the Woodwards, football isn't just a passion—it’s a way of life. |
